Dojo The Hague was founded in 1989 and located in the trendy Zeeheldenkwartier since 1996.

We consist of a group of kind people from all walks of life. We are a melting pot of cultures, nationalities, religions and ages. Our main goal is to facilitate classes in our own Dojo surrounded by great people who are willing to get the best out of themselves and each other. Our motivation is the fun and love for Budo in general, without ego or commercial gain. The arts themselves, building good character, good cooperation and a safe environment are central.

Our teachers are up to 6th Dan and have some 40 years of experience. But nowadays a black belt is a poor indicator of quality and certainly no guarantee of success. A teacher with a high degree may be substandard, while a teacher with a low degree may actually be a good match. The right expectations, a good environment, good training buddies… everything together will determine whether it will be a success or not. However, we are not just a MacDojo in the hood. Self-confident as we are, we know what we stand for. In this spirit, we welcome everyone who is positive, has an open mind and wants to delve into the arts we offer.

Last but not least, running our Dojo takes time for which no one is compensated. As a result, expectations need to be adjusted somewhat. Students support the viability of our Dojo with their contributions. Some volunteer to clean up, do paperwork, or perform other small tasks. This makes it possible to train in a nice Dojo with a sense of community, without expecting the service or entertainment that is usual at a commercial school or gym.
